Lithology and Thickness
The Azzel Formation is made up entirely of silty black mudstone. Its lateral equivalents in both the Illizi and Ghadames Basins are the Edjeleh Fm and Melez Chograne Fm respectively (Klett, 2000).
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It conformably overlies the Gres d’Ouargla Fm in the Oued Mya Basin, while it unconformably overlies the Hamra Fm in the Chotts Basin.
Upper contact
It is conformably overlain by the Gres d’Oued Saret Fm in the Oued Mya Basin, while it is unconformably overlain by the Fegaguira Fm in the Chotts Basin.
